Response Based Analysis

Response Based Analysis

RBA predicts N-year return period design responses (loads) and associated metocean conditions. It is a superior method over the conventional analysis.

Response Based Analysis (RBA) predicts design responses and associated metocean conditions (N-year return period loads, motions, accelerations, mooring tensions, etc.) directly from long term metocean data. RBA is a superior method over the conventional design approach, which determines responses from a combination of N-year environmental conditions.

Responce Based Analysis

Advantages

There are several advantages to RBA including that it:

  • Ensures compliance with design codes by predicting N-year response (action effect)
  • Provides confidence by considering all metocean combinations to which the facility is exposed during its design life
  • Confirms feasibility and identifies critical design metocean conditions for detailed analysis and model tests
  • Calibrates load factors for structural reliability analysis
  • Enables optimization of topside, vessel, mooring and riser system design
  • Facilitates integrity assessment and remedial engineering

Intecsea’s specialized skill and capabilities

Global performance and mooring analyses by RBA method can be accessed through all Intecsea offices, including:

  • Analyses of responses over long time histories (300,000 +cases)
  • Treatment of directional (carpet) wave spectra from hind-cast metocean models
  • Weather vaning analysis with effect of thrusters and sizing FPSO thrusters
  • Prediction of extreme (up to 10,000-year return period) motions, accelerations and wave loads, mooring tensions and offsets
  • Identification of design metocean conditions for extreme responses
  • High computational efficiency using proprietary and in-house software
  • Statistical analysis of site-specific metocean time histories and responses
  • Hydrodynamic analyses and prediction of wave, wind and current forces
