Audit of Asset Management System supporting health and safety

Evaluating an electricity distributor’s Asset Management System against targeted health and safety outcomes

Our client provides the distribution part of the supply chain that transports electricity from generators to customers. They are responsible for building and maintaining the ‘poles and wires’ distribution network in a large part of Australia. The client’s network consists of a vast array of assets that transport electricity to the customers’ premises. This includes transmission and distribution mains, sub-transmission, zone substations and distribution substations.

The Challenge

As part of their license to operate, management of an effective Health and Safety management system is required. Advisian was engaged by the client and IPART (the Regulator) to undertake an audit of how well the company’s Asset Management System was supporting health and safety outcomes.

Our Approach

Advisian was selected to deliver this assignment based on our:

  • Energy sector credibility
  • Proven reliability
  • Safety and risk expertise
  • Extensive background in Asset Management Systems

The plan included:

  • Audit of the current Asset Management practices against the IPART audit criteria
  • Identification of areas of non-conformance against the criteria
  • Identified opportunities for improvement
  • Presentation of the findings in a report that was approved by the IPART for release

The Results

Advisian’s audit report was delivered to IPART and the client on time and the transaction was completed within tight regulatory timeframes. Our report not only met the regulatory requirements but also gave the client a number of recommendations to implement as part of their continual improvement approach.
