Advisian recognized for excellence in consulting engineering

Since 1996, the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) have recognized exceptional work in consulting engineering in Alberta and throughout the world. This year, the Award of Merit was given to Advisian’s 5-year Reclamation Monitoring Plan (RMP) for Suncor Energy Oil Sands Limited Partnership.

Working together with Golder Associates Ltd. and Suncor Energy Inc., Advisian helped to develop a 5-Year Reclamation Monitoring Plan (RMP) for Suncor’s McKay and Firebag in situ oil sands operation, applying an adaptive management approach. Ultimately, these monitoring plans describe what success may look like for reclamation on Suncor’s in situ sites. Criteria and indicators were hand selected to meet site-specific needs. Assessment of these reclamation criteria not only allows Suncor to apply corrective actions, if needed, but will help to inform best practices for future efforts. The RMP and future updates to it will help ensure that reclamation activities have established a trajectory toward self-sustaining, locally common boreal forest ecosystems.

Congratulations to the project team: Cleo Petch, Janet Joynt, Doug Low, Melissa Moss, Stephen Symes,  Michael Vander Meulen, and Claire Hyrich.
