Case Study

Deepwater Field Development Offshore West Africa

offshore platform

Consolidating concept study data into a decision making framework

Situation

An International Oil Company had secured the rights to a significant deepwater development offshore of West Africa. The operator sought to select a preferred option to expand the development.

Approach

A concept study had been undertaken to evaluate the development options for the field, including:

  • Three water injection wells
  • Two water injection manifolds, riser system and flowlines
  • Five production wells and subsea control system
  • Infield umbilicals, spools and jumpers
  • All associated flow assurance activities.

We were engaged to consolidate concept study data into a decision framework to support the final study recommendation. The team supported the operator in the development of decision-making criteria to enable the analysis of the different development options for the field. The decision-making criteria allowed the operator to differentiate between the possible options, rank them and select the appropriate options for development.

Results

The process provided a robust and transparent development recommendation with demonstrated alignment to the operator’s strategic drivers. The project team was able to rigorously articulate the potential benefits of the recommended option to senior management allowing effective Board level decision-making.

The support provided by our team allowed swift decision making and progress into the subsequent development phases by the operator.
