Trust in data and company culture identified barriers to advancing digitisation

The biennial Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Asia, the premier offshore energy conference in the region, brings energy professionals together so that ideas and opinions can be exchanged, advancing both scientific and technical knowledge in the area.

OTC Asia was held on March 20th – 23rd in Kuala Lumpur and hosted more than 25,000 energy professionals across 2500 organisations from over 80 countries. During the event, the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) hosted the Australia-Malaysia Technology Forum. This provided an avenue for industry experts to as they try to keep up with the fast-paced advancement of global technologies.

Themed ‘Digitisation Strategies for the Industry’, representatives from Advisian, Woodside Energy, Petronas and Convergio took centre stage as the forum panel specialists. The session, moderated by the President of the Malaysian Oil & Gas Engineering Council (MOGEC), was an open and honest discussion between the moderator and members of the panel, with questions raised from the audience.
Advisian was represented by Kevin Gan, Asset Integrity and Digital Advisory Consultant, who gave an introduction on Advisian Digital and our capabilities in digital technologies, data remediation (Evolve) and asset visualisation. Key topics covered included current challenges faced by industry in terms of adopting new technologies, consequences of digitisation, future-proofing organisations and what the digital future looks like. Factors such as costs, return on investment, trust in data and company culture were identified as barriers to advancing digitisation within the region today.

Of the event Kevin Gan said, “the forum was effective and relevant as we discussed new digital solutions, grounded with realistic expectations of today’s emerging technologies. It was a great platform to share capabilities, ideas and opinions across companies. It's great to see many organisations are actively thinking about digitisation, with effective collaboration identified as one of the key success factors on their digital journey.”
