Waste treatment and disposal technologies for fish products industry

Waste Treatment and Disposal Technologies for Fish Products Industry

The BC Ministry of Environment retained WorleyParsons to complete a Best Achievable Technology (BAT) analysis of treatment and disposal options to manage air, liquid, and solid wastes produced during the commercial processing of seafood.

Work included an assessment of the regulatory regime for the industry, establishment of a plant classification system, and a summary of receiving marine environment characteristics and potential impacts in terms of hydrodynamic, physical, chemical, and biological properties.

Treatment technologies were identified and evaluated against established criteria to determine the BAT for each waste stream. This information was used to establish a preliminary classification of the receiving environment’s flushing potential for each plant.
