One of South Africa’s offshore gas companies was looking to build new offshore and onshore facilities in the Western Cape area in South Africa and needed to conduct an optimisation and option analyses study to conceptually identify opportunities to reduce or defer project CAPEX, that would not negatively impact project execution timing or the overall project value proposition. WorleyParsons was awarded the study based on the proposal of Advisian’ s unique StepWise Model; a structured, mature and well tested approach that also required close interaction with the client’s value improvement team members.
The purpose of this study was to perform a technical and financial benchmark assessment of the various development options for supply of gas from a field to an onshore power station or a proposed new IPP.
The options analysis was conducted using Advisian’ s StepWise process, which enables numerous scenarios to be tested at a high (conceptual) level with the aim of identifying the ‘best’ investment option(s), within the defined parameters.
In the initial phase of the StepWise process, Advisian identified 15 possible development options in addition to the clients “base case”. Following technical, environmental and financial analysis, six options were prioritised for further consideration in the next phase of the project. constraints.
Utilising StepWise’s distinctive capability of building flexibility into the structure of the models in order to do trade-off analysis of different technical and economic options, the client used Advisian report to provide comfort to investors to release funds to continue to the next phase of the project.
