Gateway Motorway Upgrade

Road bridge under construction

Providing dedicated expert personnel, specialist estimation reviews and expert technical reports

The situation

In 2004, our involvement began on the largest road and bridge construction project in Queensland’s history – the $2.12 billion Gateway Upgrade Project. We supported QML by providing dedicated, expert personnel to the project, including Design Manager, Contracts Manager, Construction Manager and Superintendent’s Representative, as well as specialist estimation reviews and expert technical reports.

Our approach

We assisted in developing the business case, developing and managing procurement strategies including commercial negotiations, undertaking risk identification and management throughout the project’s life, writing the Project Scope and Technical Requirements (PSTR) documentation, developing and managing the Project Deed and interface agreements, and providing value for money cost reviews.

Results

In March 2011, the project won the Project of the Year Award at Infrastructure Partnerships Australia’s National Infrastructure Awards. The prestigious award recognised the Gateway Upgrade Project ‘for its iconic status, its engineering brilliance and sheer scale’.
