Advisian was the Architectural Engineer for Progress Energy’s Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) program in North Carolina. The project involved the installation of FGD systems on seven of the company’s coal-fired plants.
The Situation
Progress Energy’s FGD program follows the State of North Carolina’s Clean Smokestacks Bill, which mandates reduced amounts of sulfur dioxide emitted from coal-fired power plants, thus contributing to cleaner air throughout the state. The work was performed in an alliance comprised of WorleyParsons, Duke Energy, the OEM, and the constructor.
Results
Advisian designed optimal arrangements of the new facilities and selected the appropriate and most cost-effective technologies to meet regulations and customer goals.
