TMS Light Metals Awards for Going FAR

 21 April 2017

Each year, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) honours the best and brightest among the materials science and engineering community – with two of our team receiving awards this year.

At TMS' 146th Annual Meeting and Exhibition held in the San Diego Convention Center, California, Brad Hogan and Andrew Furlong were recognised with the Light Metals Division Award for their submission 'Going FAR'. Outlining a conceptual idea for a floating alumina refinery, the idea for Going FAR was conceived through the learnings of floating production facilities developed in the hydrocarbons sector. You can read more about their winning entry here.

Lesley Ironside from the Brisbane office was in San Diego for the TMS Exhibition and was able to receive the awards on Brad and Andrew's behalf. The awards have now found their way to Brisbane so that Brad and Andrew could receive their prizes in person.

"The paper was written to show how innovative thinking using known scientific principles can lead to new designs, challenging some key concepts that have previously been accepted as 'That is how it has always been done!' It is an honour to receive these accolades."

- Brad Hogan

"It's certainly a privilege for our team to win this global industry award. Advisian is at the forefront of greenfield alumina refinery design and the aim was to submit a thought paper which illustrated this and stretched some boundaries."

- Andrew Furlong

Congratulations Brad and Andrew!
